Map of Prince George's County, Maryland

The Ridgway family settled near Broad Creek in Prince George's County, Maryland by the early 1700's. This area lay originally in Charles County prior the creation of Prince George's from its northern half in 1696. Piscattaway Hundred included Broad Creek and the area south of it to the Charles County line, and from the Potomac on the west to near Upper Marlboro on the east. Provincial Southern Maryland, including the region shown here, was historically dependent on tobacco cultivation and slave labor, and supported many large plantations along its rivers and tributaries.
